Strong Headwinds: The U.S.'s Position in a Rapidly Evolving Global Student Mobility Policy Landscape

Monday, March 3 | 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Recent policy changes in the traditionally largest international student receiving countries (Australia, Canada, UK) have dramatically altered the U.S.’s position as a destination market. Will the seemingly less student friendly policy environment in other countries be enough to significantly alter student choice and impact international student enrollment in the U.S.? This session will explore those policy changes, look at recent data on international student choice, and explore the ramifications for the U.S. and its institutions.

Presenters:

Adam Julian - Partnerships Director - IDP

David L. Di Maria - Senior International Officer & Associate Vice Provost for International Education - University of Maryland Baltimore County

JoAnn Ng Hartmann - Senior Impact Officer - NAFSA

From Congress to Campus: Effective Advocacy Tactics in International Education

Tuesday, March 4 | 8am - 9am

While political landscapes continually shift, the need to advocate for international education, locally and globally, persists. Effective advocacy adapts to both supportive and challenging environments. This session reviews examples of advocacy at different levels: 'Big A', focusing on government and policy-level initiatives, and 'Small A', highlighting localized efforts within institutions and communities. Panelists will discuss strategies that are effective in supportive environments as well as those necessary to make inroads in less welcoming ones.

Presenters:

Elle Butler - Head of Marketing, USA - IDP

Jessica Sandberg - Dean of International Enrollment - Duke Kunshan University

Susan Carvalho - Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School - The University of Alabama

Emerging Markets for Student Enrollment: What the Data Tells Us

Wednesday, March 5 | 9am - 10am

This panel will review trends in emerging international student markets, including Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia, looking at global student mobility data, prospective student data, and hearing from experts focusing on recruitment in these regions.

Presenters:
