Decolonizing International Student Recruitment: Shifting Language
International recruitment is increasingly focusing on Africa due to its significant student population growth. Although commonly used, framing countries as “markets” can be perceived as colonial-era terminology that unconsciously commodifies people, hindering DEI efforts and cultural sensitivity. This 50-minute session combines a presentation with guided dialogue to examine the historical context of language and reshape terminology towards a truly inclusive global education.
