Building Successful and Sustainable Relationships with Education Agents

Monday, June 24 | 11:30am - 12:30pm

Speakers:

Luna Das - Director of Client Partnerships, Canada - IDP

John Gregory - Director of International Recruitment and Transnational Programs at University of Alberta - University of Alberta

Jennifer Wright - Director of Operations and Certification - American International Recruitment Council (AIRC)

In a rather uncertain, complicated, and dynamic geo-political and policy landscape, education recruitment agents are vital to the success of the international education sector more than ever before. With domestic recruitment declining amidst major events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath, alongside geo-political instability and recent IRCC policy updates, students and institutions alike need constant assistance and advice to strategically navigate through the turbulence. Agents have proven to be strong partners in most situations, helping students in-market and keeping institutions informed of on-the-ground realities. However, there are risks associated with working with agents, often surrounding lack of quality control mechanisms and standard, documented ways of working. In the absence of a formal, provincially, or nationally-recognized policy on usage of agents, this session aims to provide institutions with best practices guidelines and information for how to work effectively and efficiently with agents, ensuring that their expectations match with realistic results whether they’re new to the practice or well-seasoned. This session will highlight practical examples of successful working relationships from both an institutional and agency perspective, as well as delve into the challenges to provide actionable advice and solutions.

The Student Voice: The Latest International Student Research

Tuesday, June 25 | 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Speakers:

Robin Garcha - Partnerships Director, Solutions Lead - IDP

Nelson Tome - Partnerships Director - IDP

Kristianne Viher - Client Success Manager - IDP

Ann Yuan - Director of International Recruitment, Admissions and Articulation - Kwantlen Polytechnic University

This session will explore findings from IDP’s latest large-scale international student survey -- Emerging Futures 5 -- analyzing the motivations, perceptions, and concerns of international students and providing attendees with a robust understanding of current international student mobility trends. New in this round of research, we ask respondents about who influences their choice of study destination, how they select their program of study, and more. In addition to overall data and trends, IDP presenters will dive into implications of the data for Canadian institutions, and how the results have changed since previous iterations of this survey. Attendees will also hear from an institutional presenter who will share their perspective on the data, how it manifests in practice, and any room for improvement highlighted by the survey results. Presenters will share actionable insights that institutions can use to inform admissions and recruitment strategies.
